There is nothing more tragic than a preventable death of an innocent. The time has come for the anti-gun left to live up to their relentless drumbeat of “it’s for the children”.
On March 30, a Georgia teen was accidentally shot during target practice in a residential backyard. She later died. According to reports, Candace Chrzan, a 17-year-old, was killed when a handgun jammed and then “accidentally fired” while being handed to another person to clear said jam. This accident was entirely preventable by merely following the four basic rules of gun safety. For those who do not know them, here is the list:
One: All guns are always loaded. (Just like you want for all people, treat every gun the same)
Two: Never let the muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy. (Following rule one, that gun is loaded and ready to fire)
Three: Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot. (Modern guns do not fire without pulling the trigger)
Four: Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it. (Bullets travel far. A miss of your intended target could still hurt someone in the distance)
Disregarding any one of these rules can result in injury or death. During the tragedy in Georgia last week, I am fairly confident that every single one was violated.
So here is my challenge to the left. Let all high schools teach these four simple rules of gun safety. As a matter of fact, based upon your continuously preached concern for preventing accidental gun deaths, Democrats should insist that all schools teach these guidelines.
For decades now, using the claims of “safety”, you have championed multiple forms of gun restrictions and laws. However, short of confiscation or civil war, there will always be millions of guns in America. No matter what gun lock or safe restrictions you manage to pass, intelligent teens will always figure out a way to get their hands on firearms. Teaching these rules would not only be sensible, but also logical.
I urge everyone who reads this article, regardless of political affiliation, to share it in social media, and forward it to your political representatives at all levels. This will only work as a grass roots movement.
Perhaps this can be an issue that will help unite Americans—protecting the children…for real.
