Mass shootings and school shootings will never be stopped completely. I say that not only with a heavy heart, but also with conviction. Why it will not should be obvious to all. Evil is spreading. The vast and growing apathy towards it acts as encouragement.

We live in a free society. That is a great thing for all of us. However, over the past half-century or so there has been a constant liberal attack on culture, values, and morality. Despite what the left claims, we are a Christian-based country and society. At no time in our past, before the attacks on Christianity and morality, was there this continuous threat of indifference, violence, and inhumanity.

With this decline in our culture, there comes with it a disrespect or disregard for human life. The fact that we are a society that allows pregnant mothers to kill their unborn children in the womb is not an irrelevant factor.

As Mother Teresa said, “We must not be surprised when we hear of murders, of killings, of wars, of hatred. If a mother can kill her own child, what is left but for us to kill each other.”

This aspect of causes of these tragic events are almost completely ignored by the mainstream media. They want to make the issue political and call for more gun control, all the while ignoring society’s ills. New laws and regulations will have very little effect on evil that is determined and indifferent.

Considering that most news networks and cable channels slant extremely heavily to the Democratic Party, they work their viewers into anti-NRA, anti-gun, and anti-Second Amendment frenzies. That translates into anti-Republican sentiment, which is exactly what they espouse.

The accusations of “not doing anything” or of being “NRA lapdogs” is always at the forefront of their reports. They say that gun owners never compromise, yet history says different.

In 1934, The National Firearms Act (NFA) was passed. This legislation heavily regulated machine guns, silencers destructive devices, short barreled rifles and other weapons.

In 1938, The Federal Firearms Act instituted the Federal Firearms License (FFL) requirement for those who manufacture, import or sell firearms.

In 1968, The Gun Control Act prohibited interstate firearm transfers unless you are a licensed dealer, manufacturer, or importer. It also prohibited convicted felons, drug users, and mentally ill from buying firearms. Also, the age limit to purchase handguns from an FFL dealer rose to 21 years old. Gun dealers were subjected to more detailed record keeping requirements.

In 1986, The Firearm Owners Protection Act created a revision to the gun control act of 1968. It clarified or redefined some of the terminology and intentions of the original act. It also prohibited civilian ownership of any automatic firearm manufactured after 1986.

In 1993, The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act added a five-day waiting period for handguns. This would eventually be changed because of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). (in some cases, it still may take 3 days to get the background check back)

In 1994, The Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act passed. It is more commonly known as the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. This was a 10-year ban on manufacture, transfer, or possession of “semi-automatic assault [sic] weapons”. (Columbine occurred while this law was in effect…or should I say “was ineffective” instead?)

Obviously, the laws above tell a different story than “gun owners or the NRA never compromising.” The NRA proposed creating the NICS.

Despite the continuous additions of new laws and regulations, evil people have still managed to cause damage and kill.

We’ve heard from the left “enough is enough,” time and time again. We have countered with the common sense and logic that people intent on committing homicide have no fear of breaking subordinate laws to do it. Yet here we are again listening to the call for more action and more laws.

It appears that during this post-Parkland shooting, there will be some changes including more thorough background checks and raising the age to buy AR-style rifles to 21.

In 1968, we’ve raised the age to buy handguns to 21, yet we have seen numerous school shootings where the perpetrator was under that legal age requirement and still used a handgun. Why would this new law prevent the same with an AR?

An 18-year-old female (and much younger in many states) can choose to get an abortion and kill her unborn child. Is that death of a child okay because “it’s a choice”?

We feel that a person over 18 is adult enough to join the military, fight, and die for his country. That person can also vote and determine the course of our government. Should we consider raising those age limits also? How about restricting their right to free speech, freedom of religion, and from self-incrimination until 21 also?

If we change and add laws, and that next shooting happens, which it will, then what?

Will my fellow conservatives and Republicans finally stand up and take our turn to say “enough is enough” regarding Second Amendment infringement?

Will the conversation finally start focusing on this country’s social issues and the decline in morality?

Should the next mass shooting be committed by a 23-year-old, will there be a new call to raise the legal age to the firearm to 25? Where will it stop?

American gun owners and the National Rifle Association have long bore the brunt of the blame after evil rampages by evil people.

A firearm is a tool. No more. No less.

When a craftsman who does poor quality work, we cannot blame his saw, hammer, or chisel.

When a drunk driver kills a family, we do not blame the auto manufacturer.

When a killer stabs people to death, we do not go after kitchen cutlery.

Logic and common sense should not be invalidated or ignored just because a firearm is involved in a crime.

The next school/mass shooter will be just as evil as the previous.

When you accept that evil exists, you’ll be free to acknowledge that no law will ever stop or abolish it.
