Bringing a large portion of one’s own force to bear on small enemy units in sequence, rather than engaging the bulk of the enemy force all at once, is known as “defeat in detail”. Most people today will call it “divide and conquer”. This is a military offensive maneuver. However, it also commonly applies to the political landscape. If the supporters of Donald Trump are not careful, it could happen to their movement.
On Sunday, July 6th, at the end of a long holiday weekend during a major catastrophic flood in Texas, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of investigation released a joint statement declaring that the Jeffrey Epstein case was closed.
This was not received well by a large percentage of Trump supporters. Not only was there a complete dismissal of concerns about the Epstein victims, the manner in which it was done was very concerning. A case as infamous as this, at a minimum, should have had a press conference with Attorney General Pam Bondi speaking and taking questions afterwards. The release instead was dropped on a busy news weekend during a time which not many people would be paying attention. It seemed underhanded and sneaky.
Later that night and the entire next day, the “Twitter-verse” exploded with disbelief and anger. Releasing the Epstein files to the public was a much talked about topic during the 2024 Presidential election season. Despite the online furor, on Tuesday during a cabinet meeting, President Trump berated a reporter who asked about the case. It was “doubling down” on putting that case in the past despite his followers’ frustrations.
Many Trump supporters insinuated that it was some part of a grand plan to arrest high profile people on the list. Others brushed it off as if there was nothing more to be seen. Either way, those excuses did not sit with that large portion of people who were concerned about the Epstein case. Long-time MAGA supporters who did not believe the case should be over were called either “traitors”, “closet anti-Trumpers” or new to the Twitter (X) parlance- “panicans”. This term is being applied to anyone who doubts decisions or moves by the President. Somehow, a certain percentage of the right has become “absolutists”, stating that we should believe anything Trump does is correct. That thought process is too damn similar to the mind-numbed automatons of the Democrats who are mocked incessantly by the right.
It did not take long for those on the left to capitalize on this division and try to drive a wedge between Trump and a large portion of the MAGA community. One of the tactics they used, which satiated their Trump Derangement Syndrome, was to insinuate that Donald Trump would not release the files because he was on that evil client list. It forced the President’s supporters back on the defensive, while also stoking the bitterness and anger growing between them.
In the week following the engagement with the reporter at the Cabinet meeting, it seems that the Trump camp has settled down their behavior on both sides, but neither is giving much ground. That may be settled even more, as high level conservatives are realizing that the case should not have been dismissed so offhandedly.
Lara Trump spoke out today to inform people that she believes more info will be forthcoming regarding this horrendous case. She is not an official spokesperson, but she does provide personal insight into Trump family circle. Lara also stated, “But to everybody out there who’s all worked up about it, there’s no great plot to keep this information away that I’m aware of.”
If handled correctly, the DOJ and FBI, at the direction of Donald Trump, can settle this matter for good, but only with great transparency. MAGA nation strongly believes in the 45th & 47th President, but they are a group of independent thinkers. The administration must remember that fact for future actions.
Conservatives, Republicans and MAGA must be held together to have any hope of giving the President a full 4 years with both the House and Senate. Any chinks in the armor will be exploited by Trump’s numerous political enemies who have been hoping to divide and conquer this movement since the famous 2016 escalator ride. Without unity, in both the people and government, the left will surely disrupt our plan to Make America Great Again.
