Energy independence.
Secure borders.
Low inflation.
Increased manufacturing jobs.
Ending the Iraq war and no new wars.
Economic Boom.
These and other achievements during his first term are what Donald J. Trump can hang his hat on with ALL Americans. No citizen in their right minds would oppose these accomplishments. So how can many of our neighbors, friends and family be against the current Republican Presidential candidate? For many, it might be the abortion issue.
A leading cause of the 2016 election of Trump was the fact that multiple Supreme Court openings were likely to occur. Many conservatives knew if Hillary Clinton got elected, leftist ideals and agenda would be cemented into existence through leftist SCOTUS rulings. Conversely, the opportunity to end Roe V. Wade was a driving force for many to turnout and vote for the eventual President.
Appointing Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett enabled the overturning of a case that should never have been a Supreme Court ruling in the first place. Allowing a woman to have a fetus obliterated and/or removed is NOT a federal issue. The actions taken by conservative members of the court DID NOT END ABORTION RIGHTS. The matter was merely thrown back to the purview of individual states, just like death penalty, marijuana use and many other prominent issues. The Founding Fathers were clear on limiting federal power to only certain issues.
However, like many times before and since, the Republican/conservative messaging on this issue has been weak, wrong, ignored or drowned out by the mainstream media. Too many ill-informed voters believe that abortion is a Constitutional matter, and that re-electing Biden (or electing any other Democrat) will somehow make it such.
Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee need to make a concerted effort to spread the information that abortion has NOT been outlawed. Let Americans know that the issue is merely now determined by individual states. They also need to understand that most Americans neither want to ban abortion, nor allow late term abortion. The focus should be on limiting abortion, not stopping it. Personally, I am against abortion, but I am also a realist. Winning elections is important. One issue should not derail that.
Last week, during the New Hampshire primary, Biden hosted an abortion rights rally in Virginia. This is a very smart plan to try to rally female and liberal voters, while simultaneously drawing the low informed independents into the leftist camp. When people do not pay attention to the issues, they are easily influenced by the media which promotes primarily left-leaning views. I think this event is the beginning of a focused campaign to promote “women’s rights”, which to Democrats means “unrestricted abortion”.
Biden cannot run on economy or inflation because Americans feel it in their pockets.
Biden cannot run on immigration and border security.
Biden cannot run on making peace, winning wars/engagements, projection of power or deterring our enemies.
Biden cannot run on helping minorities or the common man.
In 2020, Democrats had the dead economy of Covid 19 to use against Trump (and some questionable-at-best voting procedures). This campaign season, Biden has abortion and the obfuscation of saying Trump & Republicans are going to end it. Democrats will continue to hammer that message. It might be their only hope to win…their “Hail Mary.” And it might just work if Trump does not address it head on.
